One of the most beautiful cities of the United Arab Emirates, Al Ain, will host a big ice hockey club tournament among girls. It will be held from September 5 to 9 this year and will unite both professional hockey players and amateurs from 30 countries of the world. Eight teams will take part in the tournament: Wings (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), Panteras (Mexico), Philippine Eagles (Philippines), Muscat (Oman), Ice Box (Iran), Aldhabi (UAE), Yas (UAE) and Shaheen (UAE). Also, professional players from China, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and many others will be mixed between these teams
The format of the tournament involves the division of teams into two groups, and then – cross-playoffs. The first and second places of the groups will compete for the gold medals of the Union Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament, and the third and fourth – for the bronze. Also, it is planned to hold an All Stars game with the participation of famous faces of women’s hockey
As reported, the main goal of the tournament is to increase attention to women’s hockey in the region, attract new players, and for many teams – to gain experience playing in international tournaments
For example, this tournament will be the debut for the teams from Oman, Riyadh and Shaheen. And representatives of Iran will put their youth national women’s team (U18) at the tournament
The main organizer of the tournament is the UAE women’s national ice hockey team led by its captain Fatema Al Qubaisi with the support of the organization Together We Can
