In this section we will tell about the history of the emergence and formation of the best sports game in the ADIHIC countries. Uzbekistan is the first one. In just five years in a country with a hot climate, ice hockey has been developing from scratch with very big steps.
In the seventies, ice hockey players from all over the Soviet Union came to Tashkent to play for a local team. At first it was Spartak, as in many cities of the USSR, and then it got the local name Binokor (The Builder). The team played in the Second League of the USSR championship and for several years rose to the First League.
The Binokor academy also produced local cadres. The most famous ice hockey player from Uzbekistan is Shukur Karimov. Now, he is the Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Ice Hockey Federation, formed in 2018. Also, Viktor Nechaev played in Binokor in the 1979/1980 season. He was the first Soviet ice hockey player in the NHL. He played for the Los Angeles Kings in 1983.
Graduates of the local academy now play in local amateur leagues. By the way, there is a current NHL player among the natives of Tashkent. Artur Kaliyev was born in Uzbekistan, but left for the USA at an early age and began playing hockey. Kaliev won the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship as a member of the U.S. national team.
Binokor played at the Yubileyniy Sports Palace. After the collapse of the USSR, the building was used as a market. So, until 2018, there was simply no ice hockey in Uzbekistan.
In February 2020, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the development of winter sports. It also assumed the restoration of the skating rink on the site of the old Yubileyniy. The new palace is already in operation, having received the name Alpomish.
