Ambitious plans of Uzbekistan

The first vice-president of the Uzbekistan Ice Hockey Federation, Bahodir Gafurov, said that the national teams of the country of all ages are going to compete at the IIHF World Championships starting from 2025

This year, the Asian and Oceania U18 Championship was held in Mongolia, where the junior national team of Uzbekistan won a triumphant victory. And next year this tournament will be hosted by Tashkent. In early August, Uzbekistan was visited by Vice-President of the IIHF Aivaz Omorkanov. At a meeting with him, the President of the Uzbekistan Ice Hockey Federation Bakhtiyor Fazylov confirmed his readiness to host the second U18 Asian and Oceania Championship in Uzbekistan

More teams are scheduled to participate in the upcoming tournament next year than in the last championship. Therefore, it is assumed that the teams at the first stage will be divided into two groups, and the games will be held in Tashkent and Samarkand. The playoffs and the final match will be held in Tashkent

Uzbekistan will have to start from the weakest division. According to the rules of the IIHF , the national team begins participation in the World Championship program from the lowest — fourth division

The last time the national team of Uzbekistan participated in the Winter Spartakiad, back in Soviet times from 1978 to 1986. The team returned to the international arena only in January of this year, took part in the Kazan Cup 2023.
