Russian ice hockey player Savely Voronov received Turkish citizenship and was called up to the training camp of the Turkish national team. The goaltender plays for the local Istanbul BB.

In the history of Turkey, this is the first case of naturalization of ice hockey players for the national team.

The national team will prepare for the IIHF Division 3 (A) World Championship at home, which will be held in Istanbul in April 2025. The tournament will be attended by the national teams of Turkmenistan, Bosnia, Luxembourg, South Africa and Kyrgyzstan. The winner of the group will receive a promotion to the Division 2(B).

The goalie has been playing in the national championship since 2019. Earlier, Voronov was appointed goaltender coach of the Turkish women’s youth national team.
